But the Austrian cavalry fought back & while eventually losing the surviving enemy cavalry was spent & useless. Meanwhile, the Austrian yegers on the other flank were probably the decisive difference. They not only took out troops by breaking them with musket fire, but they forced the Prussians to deplete their front line to face the threat to their flank. </p><p><br /><br /><br /><br /> </p>Jim Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12887113188460058236noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14231749.post-3429370762275331272024-03-12T23:22:00.006+11:002024-03-12T23:22:41.966+11:00CHOTUSITZ 1742<p>Austrians: Chris & Mark, 16 infantry, 4 grenz, 10 cavalry, 4 batteries.<br />Prussians: Mitch & SteveJ, 16 infantry, 10 cavalry, 6 batteries.<br />The Austrian cavalry are +1. Brits: Mike (left flank). <br />The table is 10'x6'.<br />There were 6 objectives: The corners of the two plateaus, the three houses & the bridge.<br />Each player had his own coloured command dice in the bag. We minimised the no. of command dice by not having a dice for transports (they moved with their passenger's command dice) & maximising armour. Even so there were a lot of command dice in the bag, but we kept the game moving by drawing multiple dice until one was drawn opposite a player who still hadn't completed his move. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrTDCy4q2K31jWilDe0eU8FRa4ZJ2GAp-8NrpZPYmeR9c8_D0ykGfzOjQrruAsjaERExQ4Gn8pSSnD5HhToJJboVZb3DyTR2R-RZTZMsjJ2ToX-FqnQguaT6qR7ZOe_E2h29a1Ge0-HKr-rNGoRC5TUeZCDgoeVP_4YhSXkM_1Srgm8Bfz_ivxsQ/s4000/20240206_201726.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1868" data-original-width="4000" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrTDCy4q2K31jWilDe0eU8FRa4ZJ2GAp-8NrpZPYmeR9c8_D0ykGfzOjQrruAsjaERExQ4Gn8pSSnD5HhToJJboVZb3DyTR2R-RZTZMsjJ2ToX-FqnQguaT6qR7ZOe_E2h29a1Ge0-HKr-rNGoRC5TUeZCDgoeVP_4YhSXkM_1Srgm8Bfz_ivxsQ/w640-h298/20240206_201726.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>While the three platoons on each side mostly faced off one on one v. their opposite number, there was a lot of crossover as players supported their adjacent comrades. <br />The Germans plan was for their centre platoon to attack the central house & bridge with the German right sending some infantry support while digging in to defend the objective on the plateau.<br />The Allied plan was to dispute the centre & take out the German right using their considerable superiority in armour.<br />The US also attacked on the far flank, but the Germans there had good defensive terrain & the attack ended in a stalemate.<br />On the near flank, the Germans just managed to delay the enemy attack & hold on to the objective until time was up.<br />The decisive action was in the centre, where the Allied attack was crippled by Steve's Neblewerfer taking out two infantry units in one strike, allowing him to take the bridge objective as well as hold the house.<p></p><p>The casualties were almost equal, but the Germans won with four objectives to two. </p>Jim Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12887113188460058236noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14231749.post-78501480627233029462024-01-31T04:20:00.000+11:002024-01-31T04:20:36.710+11:00New Model Army v. The English used their superior command well to control the action, delaying most of the Scots until the highlanders were destroyed, then forming a sound defense against the belated Scot's counterattack. </p><p>Our series of 3 actions have pitted a small high quality army against a larger regular force. Eight players have been involved with 2 or 3 a side, often swapping sides. The points system has the armies about equal points. The English have won all three, but in each case have also had the better battle plan, so the points system seems pretty good.<br /><br /><br /> </p><p><br /></p>Jim Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12887113188460058236noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14231749.post-14029823569615020172024-01-24T20:23:00.000+11:002024-01-24T20:23:04.727+11:00New Model Army still in Scotland<p>Same armies as last time, but the player have changed sides with a new scenario & terrain utilising the my 3D printing of the last week. 1st pic from behind NMA left flank.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTNwEVsRilvWXWHUyhw5Y23CnoW0aPUU4TcAfW8XQHPwRkEaswhEOINOsSPxm4uXFs3hca7PEqZrfQ9kTVqhyphenhyphen8nAasZ7xm7WHmGhxvU4kPwaIzJyUTbPvlrQ2qIfCzB3a8cDf6hWjqTNDAQ-N6rtDd_gJIPa51cLI9roXMfT1L2oSUi03i5OkAow/s4000/20240122_182724.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1868" data-original-width="4000" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTNwEVsRilvWXWHUyhw5Y23CnoW0aPUU4TcAfW8XQHPwRkEaswhEOINOsSPxm4uXFs3hca7PEqZrfQ9kTVqhyphenhyphen8nAasZ7xm7WHmGhxvU4kPwaIzJyUTbPvlrQ2qIfCzB3a8cDf6hWjqTNDAQ-N6rtDd_gJIPa51cLI9roXMfT1L2oSUi03i5OkAow/w640-h298/20240122_182724.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p>Both sides have had their pike & shot, artillery & one

The left flank plan worked, the right flank plan was thwarted by a sound defense. The centre plan sort of worked, as the mostly successful defense of the river line inflicted critical casualties on the Scots.</p>Jim Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12887113188460058236noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14231749.post-4935884689895604132024-01-16T14:36:00.000+11:002024-01-16T14:36:26.773+11:00Some new 3D printed terrain<p> I've been making some more terrain features with my 3D printer.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT-kyqZzmR6K5mTFxHSmhf83zTqhXbsVL099kwS8qZi6MU2K-XErrJUdWKRp9Zu6XQVGLyeRwsnsMAGB3JEQoF6ABBZpS1LnWdk5z4ZBYsPBcvJCKaG9_o0S2RAg8kBUQVa7Y9rknro30JLpSKNGGq877SpLcocTpWmW1E1o0v-b6uI_jKEo5Jmg/s4000/20240116_142234.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1868" data-original-width="4000" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT-kyqZzmR6K5mTFxHSmhf83zTqhXbsVL099kwS8qZi6MU2K-XErrJUdWKRp9Zu6XQVGLyeRwsnsMAGB3JEQoF6ABBZpS1LnWdk5z4ZBYsPBcvJCKaG9_o0S2RAg8kBUQVa7Y9rknro30JLpSKNGGq877SpLcocTpWmW1E1o0v-b6uI_jKEo5Jmg/w640-h298/20240116_142234.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>The hedgerows are not a new item, but I've printed off more of them.<br />The trees are a freebee from Thingaverse. I've been printing them in various sizes.<br />The river is based on a section of straight that I got from Thingaverse. I use Tinkercad to modify the original file to make various lengths & curves.<br />The road sections are also made by modifying the river file. The wheel tracks are added by dragging a hot soldering iron over the prints. I found this was easier to do than making multiple meandering grooves on the model in Tinkercad.<br />The house is an old paper model. I still think paper models are easier to make than 3D printed ones as you don't have to paint them, & they are surprisingly robust.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirvJhyphenhyphenIUT35BFzn20pL5cB8GpM_N09-5MtMrV6P8wkbFF0uA2bY7-EvnWymxFk5Bz13LYA6SP2zx5mKahuPmvhA2rRZx94sXCbpiDTAFowFysPSywEGEoa0vTyE1RiUNQQLkIFjRH2rnu7z8ucY7zuMBBitcxL-zVs4qNvry8ordsEwktAed4B2A/s4000/20240116_143321.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1868" data-original-width="4000" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirvJhyphenhyphenIUT35BFzn20pL5cB8GpM_N09-5MtMrV6P8wkbFF0uA2bY7-EvnWymxFk5Bz13LYA6SP2zx5mKahuPmvhA2rRZx94sXCbpiDTAFowFysPSywEGEoa0vTyE1RiUNQQLkIFjRH2rnu7z8ucY7zuMBBitcxL-zVs4qNvry8ordsEwktAed4B2A/w640-h298/20240116_143321.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>I've printed some hedgerows printed smaller & here they form a vineyard for 15mm figs.<p></p><p><br /></p>Jim Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12887113188460058236noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14231749.post-47697589762085802022024-01-13T12:00:00.004+11:002024-01-13T12:00:33.231+11:00WWI Cruiser Action<p>Both sides had 2 CA, 3CL & 4DD.<br />Germans: Jim.
